Myths about LionsDen

OH THE FRUSTRATION!!! It‚Äôs ironic for someone who makes his living by communication, but after 25 years there are still a number of myths about LionsDen. I hope this short email will go some way to correcting themūüėä

MYTH ONE:
LionsDen is just John Clare.
WRONG!   There are more than a dozen other highly skilled tutors/facilitators, based in the UK, US and continental Europe.  They are all great coaches, and have wide pharma/bio experience.

MYTH TWO:
LionsDen only does ‚Äėmedia training‚Äô.
WRONG!    We prepare people for presentations, panels, regulatory and reimbursement hearings, keynote speeches, AGMs…and media interviews.  If it’s about verbal comms, LionsDen can help.

MYTH THREE:
LionsDen only works in English.
WRONG!    One of our USPs is our network of coaches who can work in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Czech and Russian.  They all work in English, too.

Sharing my presentation secrets

What makes a great scientific presentation? Clarity, simplicity, enthusiasm, a clear narrative, and a great beginning and an end. I’ve been sharing my presentation techniques all over the world for many years. As the conference season is here I was asked to help presenters prepare for The¬†European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) annual congress in Lisbon. The value of clear communication

When you work in the communications business, many companies and individuals ask for ways of measuring the impact of communicating.   A good question, and an understandable one.  The answer varies depending on a number of factors.  Clarity of the communication is key, alongside the identification of target audiences, effective dissemination, objectives that are SMART РSpecific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-related.

Great news today for a campaign that achieved all of those criteria…and prevented 4,000 people from suffering serious disability. The FAST campaign from Public Health England aimed to help people recognise the symptoms of a stroke, and urging them to act fast, as speed of treatment is crucial to preventing permanent brain damage. It worked. According to PHE,¬†¬†many more people reached hospital quick enough to receive the immediate medical treatment they needed.¬†This helped their chances of recovery and meant fewer people were left disabled by a stroke.

But PHE says 10,000 more strokes could be prevented each year if mini-strokes were spotted and treated in time.  A new campaign is aimed at raising awareness of the symptoms.
